Bubble letters in four shapes

Uses for bubble text

Bubble letters are playful and work well for one short word: a name in a bio, a label like Ⓝⓔⓦ in a caption, a section header in a Discord server or a sign-off in a message. They are less suited to whole sentences, because circles make word shapes hard to recognize.

Good to know

Black bubbles and squares only exist as capital letters in Unicode, so lowercase text turns into capitals there. A few black squares, such as 🅰 🅱 🅾 and 🅿, are also emoji, and phones may draw them in red. Accented letters and punctuation stay as they are.

Screen readers announce these as symbols, for example "circled latin small letter s", so a word in bubbles is hard to follow for someone listening. Keep your key text plain.

Questions and answers

Are there lowercase bubble letters?

Yes, in white bubbles: ⓐⓑⓒ. Black bubbles and squares only exist as capitals in Unicode, so lowercase letters become capitals in those styles.

Do bubble numbers work?

Yes. White bubbles go from ⓪ to ⑨ and black bubbles from ⓿ to ➒. Squares have no digits, so numbers stay plain.

Why do black squares look like emoji?

A few of them, like 🅰 🅱 🅾 🅿, are also emoji, so some phones draw them in color. That is decided by the device, not by the text.
