Strikethrough text is great for jokes and corrections: s̶a̶l̶a̶d̶ pizza for dinner. Most social apps have no strikethrough button, so this generator adds a combining stroke after each character. Combining marks are Unicode characters that draw on top of the character before them, so the line travels with your text when you copy it.

Line styles

• Strikethrough draws a straight line through the middle.
• Slashed crosses each character with a diagonal stroke, which looks deliberate even where fonts place marks unevenly.
• Wavy strike uses a tilde overlay for a scribbled look.
• Underline, double underline and overline draw lines below or above instead.

When to use native formatting instead

Several apps have real strikethrough built in, which is cleaner and easier for screen readers: WhatsApp uses ~tildes~, Discord uses ~~double tildes~~, and Slack and Telegram have their own formatting. Use this generator for Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and profile names, where no such option exists.

Because every character gets an extra mark, struck text counts double towards character limits, so a 30-character name fits only about 15 struck characters. Screen readers usually ignore the marks or read them out one by one, so the joke may get lost. Do not cross out anything important.

How does strikethrough text work without formatting?

A combining long stroke (U+0336) follows every character. Apps draw it across the character before it, so the line runs through the whole text.

Is there a better way in WhatsApp or Discord?

Yes. WhatsApp strikes ~text between tildes~, Discord uses ~~double tildes~~, and Slack ~single tildes~. Native formatting is cleaner and screen readers handle it better.

Why is the line uneven on my phone?

Each font positions combining marks slightly differently. The Slashed and Wavy strike styles hide that better than a straight line.
