Where each Instagram font works

How to change your Instagram bio font

  1. Type your bio in the box at the top, then press Copy on the style you like.
  2. Open Instagram, go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
  3. Tap Bio, paste, and save.

The same text works in TikTok, Threads, X and Facebook, because it is ordinary text rather than a font setting.

What does not render everywhere

Instagram shows text with the fonts on each viewer's phone. Bold, italic, cursive and double-struck look right on practically every device. Rarer symbols, like some small caps letters and upside down capitals, can appear as empty boxes on older phones. Some apps, such as certain Android launchers or third-party Instagram viewers, also show these letters in a plain fallback font.

Keep in mind that screen readers read styled letters badly. Write the important part of your bio, such as what you do or how to contact you, in plain text.

Questions and answers

Can I change the font of my Instagram bio?

Not directly, but you can paste Unicode letters, which look like a different font. Type your bio here, copy the style you like and paste it into Edit profile.

Why did Instagram not accept my fancy name?

The name field has a 30 character limit and Instagram filters some symbols. Styled letters can also count as two characters in some apps. Try a shorter name or a simpler style.

Will people still find me in search?

Instagram search matches your username and plain-text name. A fully styled name can be harder to find, so keep your real name in plain letters somewhere, for example in the username.

Can screen readers read these fonts?

Not well. These are not real fonts but separate Unicode symbols, so a screen reader may spell out each one ("mathematical bold capital S") or skip it. Keep important information, like your name, contact details or a call to action, in plain text.
